If you’re dreaming of a wild, scenic road-trip full of rugged coastlines, rolling green hills, ancient castles and charming villages, Northern Ireland is a campervan paradise. At Vdubline, our fleet of VW campervans (Betsy, Mary-Jane & Albie) offers you the freedom to roam in comfort, style and reliability.
Here’s a suggested 7-day route to help you get the most out of your Northern Ireland adventure — all from the comfort of your VW home on wheels.
Day 1 — Belfast & The Causeway Coast
Pick up your VW campervan, then head straight to Belfast and spend your first day exploring Northern Ireland’s capital. Walk around the Titanic Quarter, visit the Ulster Museum, and enjoy a pint in the Cathedral Quarter.
Head northwest in the late afternoon toward the spectacular Causeway Coastal Route, staying overnight near the Glens of Antrim.
Day 2 — Giant’s Causeway & Carrick-a-Rede
Start your morning at the Giant’s Causeway, exploring the basalt columns and dramatic coastline. Then head over to Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge for sea views and adrenaline.
In the afternoon, drive through the Glens of Antrim, stopping at pretty villages and peaceful viewpoints. Stay overnight around Ballintoy or Ballycastle.
Day 3 — Rathlin Island & Bushmills
Take a ferry across to Rathlin Island for seabird colonies, lighthouses and quiet nature trails. Return in the afternoon and visit the Old Bushmills Distillery (if open) or explore Dunluce Castle perched on the cliffs. Overnight near Bushmills or Portrush.
Day 4 — Derry / Londonderry & Inishowen Peninsula
Drive north into County Derry / Londonderry, stroll along the city walls, and then head up into Inishowen — the most northerly peninsula in Ireland. Visit Malin Head (Ireland’s northernmost point), and overnight in the area.
Day 5 — Donegal & Slieve League (optional detour)
If time allows, cross into County Donegal and drive to Slieve League Cliffs — some of Europe’s highest sea cliffs. The views are unforgettable. Return into Northern Ireland in the evening and camp near Letterkenny or the border.
Day 6 — Mourne Mountains & Strangford Lough
Head south toward the Mourne Mountains and the Strangford Lough area. Hike or drive through the Mournes, then explore Portaferry and the Strangford shoreline. Overnight in the Ards Peninsula or along Strangford Lough.
Day 7 — Downpatrick & Return to Belfast
Spend your final day visiting Downpatrick, the burial site of Saint Patrick, and explore the coastal villages on your way back. Return your campervan in Belfast with plenty of time for one last evening in the city.
